Yes, it is a bit of faffing to copy the link itself - but it does export really nicely to a spreadsheet!

In brief: The advanced filter method is recording the referring URL with a visit level scope, and applying "first touch" to it. Ie, Google Analytics is saving the referring URL for the first page view of a visit... which makes sense.

Great that you've tested it!

I've been testing it for myself a while now and I actually waited to publish this post just to make sure that it worked correctly. The only thing that can be annoying with this method is that you can't simply click on the link and get to the source – you have top copy+paste it first. I'll try to test it some more and add some filters so it will work even better .

I'm going to retract that. The advanced filter doesn't appear to be suffering from the same last touch problem as the traffic sources report does - but comparing two methods, I'm seeing some oddities. Done some investigation, but need to check more. Published a little info on my beta blog.
